North Korean souvenirs

Hi,

I will be going to North Korea in the fall 2011. I wanted to know if it is possible to buy souvenirs such as North Korean posters, stamps, coins, etc. If so, where can these be bought?

Would it be necessary to have a visit to a souvenir shop in North Korea or would it be accessible to purchase such things throughout the trip?

Thanks for your message.

You can purchase souvenirs in Korea in the hotel where you will stay as well as in several shops around the country. There is a wide variety of unique North Korean products that can be bought; coins, stamps, hand painted posters, books written by the "Great Leaders", cds, videos (e.g North Korean movies), t-shirts, Korean traditional products including alcohol, cigarettes etc all made in the DPRK.

Most of these products can only found in North Korea and travellers actually tend to end up buying more than what they had initially expected as they are so unique. Books explaining the national ideology of the country can be bought in several languages.
